Tell us about your career and what you do now.

I currently do Marketing at a metal fabrication company in Springfield, Mo. I was hired right before I graduated and met my bosses while serving tables at a country club. We had discussed how I was looking for a job in my field, and they were also looking for a stronger online presence for their company. June 2021 a marketing position was created, and the rest is history! I am very fortunate to have found a job that I really enjoy right after college.

I also started my own podcast in February of this year. I felt God putting it on my heart, and decided to just go for it. The premise of the podcast is to interview people with remarkable stories that I meet in day-to-day life. I kept being encouraged by the resiliency of people’s stories and felt like they would have a strong impact on others as well. For the podcast, I find the guests, interview them, record it, film it, and edit it all on my own. It can be challenging having a podcast while also having a full-time job, but the passion I have for it, and the impact I’ve seen it have on people makes it all worth it.

What is your favorite memory from Evangel?

My favorite memory is going on a global connections trip to Cyprus with Dr. Smallwood and a few of my classmates. We all really bonded, and it was one of the most culturally eye-opening experiences of my life, and also the funniest.

How did Evangel help you identify/develop your calling?

At Evangel, I was exposed to the resources and relationships that pushed me to follow my calling. For me, that is pursuing whatever God wants me to pursue. At Evangel, I developed a passion for all things under the Communication field. That, and my love for people have led me to have opportunities to learn radio, broadcasting, youth ministry, and sales which eventually led to me starting my own podcast. I made so many relationships and genuine connections at Evangel that I stay in contact with to this day. Evangel gave me the space to grow, learn, and experience so that when I finished college I was strong in my identity, faith, and passions. Having professors care about me during college and after college is the perfect example of how the university sees the big picture. They did not just want you to succeed, but they also wanted to help you develop as a person, and find the calling God has on your life.

How did your experience at Evangel prepare you for life after graduation?

The difficult conversations and debates I had in and outside of the classroom prepared me to be able to be confident in difficult conversations I have now in life. Evangel helped prepare my way of thinking, it helped guide the qualities I look for in relationships, and it helped me learn how to integrate faith into every aspect of my life.

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

I would encourage current students to put themselves out there and try new things. Join clubs, do extracurriculars, go to events, and make new friends. This not only diversifies your network, but also your talents and way of thinking. I also encourage students to just go for it. Shoot your shot when it comes to internships or jobs. The more experience and networking connections you have, the more opportunities open up.

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from Evangel?

I would look for someone who is ambitious and has a strong sense of who they are. Someone who is teachable, confident, honest, and eager to learn is the ideal moldable candidate.
